Map / Globe / Atlas
• A map is a drawing of a place that shows where something is or where something happened. A map’s legend has a compass rose to show direction, a scale to show distance, and a key to symbols.
• A globe is a sphere with a map of the world.
• An atlas is a book of maps
Diagram / Scale Drawing
• A diagram is a special drawing with labels. Usually, a diagram shows how something is made, how an object’s parts relate to one another, or how something works. Sometimes a diagram must be studied in a certain order to be understood—left to right, top to bottom, or bottom to top. Often diagrams contain text that explains something about the object being illustrated.
• A scale drawing is a diagram that uses a mathematical scale. For example, one inch on a scale drawing might be equal to one foot on the object in real life.
